Verily, there has come to you a Messenger from amongst yourselves. It grieves him that you should experience any injury or difficulty. He is anxious over you; for the believers, he is full of pity, kind, and merciful.

[at-Tawbah; 128]

‘A’ishah narrated:

“Once, when I saw the Prophet in a good mood, I said to him: “O Messenger of Allah! Supplicate to Allah for me!”

So, he said: “O Allah! Forgive ‘A’ishah her past and future sins, what she has hidden, as well as what she has made apparent.

So, I began smiling, to the point that my head fell into my lap out of joy.

The Messenger of Allah said to me: “Does my supplication make you happy?

I replied: “And how can your supplication not make me happy?”

He then said: “By Allah, it is the supplication that I make for my Ummah in every prayer.

Assalamu Alaikum,

Finally – here’s an update to IslamicInk!

What prompted me to post this was that recently I’ve been listening to some lectures about the linguistic aspects of the Qur’an. Though I have to say, regretfully, I don’t speak Arabic, listening to this brother has seriously had a great impact on me. So without further ado – I present to you Br. Nouman Ali Khan. This brother is simply brilliant – he’s head of the Bayyinah Arabic Studies Institute in the US and Canada which focuses on teaching Qur’anic Arabic and Tajweed across the nation. Here’s a quick bio of him from the Bayyinah website:

Nouman Khan began his formal Arabic training during his childhood schooling in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He continued his Arabic grammar study in Pakistan, where he received a scholarship for ranking among the top 10 scores in the national Arabic studies board examination. Under the guidance of Dr. Abdus-Samie, founder and formal principal of Quran College in Faisalabad, Pakistan, he developed a keen methodical understanding of Arabic grammar. He further benefited from Dr. Abdus-Samie by internalizing his unique teaching methods and later translating his work into English for the benefit of his own students. Nouman currently serves as professor of Arabic at Nassau Community College and has taught Modern Standard and Classical Arabic at various venues for nearly 6 years with over 700 students. His handbook published by the Bayyinah Arabic Studies Institute for ARA-201 is also being used as a class aide at the Jaamiah-Al-Uloom Al-Islamiyyah, Institute of Islamic Education in Ajax, Canada.

The first lecture, that really had the greatest impact on me was ‘Why Study Arabic and How?’ You can listen here:

Another one which was simply amazing was from the ‘Divine Speech’ series which were basically short talks on different topics of different verses from the Qur’an after Taraweeh from last Ramadan. The brother goes into depth regarding the preciseness of the language Allaah uses in the Ayaat. The one below is entitled ‘Conflict Resolution’.

Alif Laam Meeeem..Zalikal Kitabu La rayba fi….

And the Imam starts off reciting the Surah in his awesome voice, causing your heart to turn over at the sweetness. You make a promise to yourself that after this Ramadan you will recite the Qur’an more often. Ramadan passes, Shawwal comes and goes, then Dhul Qada’ and then Dhul Hijjah…Safar…and you haven’t touched the Qur’an since Ramadan. This is the fourth time this occurred, you remember making the same promise to yourself the year before…and the year before…and the year before…only to end up being distracted each time and leaving the Qur’an on top of the shelf to collect dust.

Why is it that we can find ourselves spending so much time doing other things, reading other books, studying secular studies, and surfing the internet yet it’s hard for us to find time for the Qur’an?

{O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (this Qur’an), and a healing for that in your breasts, – a Guidance and a Mercy for the believers.} 10:57

Little do we realize what this Qur’an is and how little time do we spend reciting it! How little time do we spend memorizing it, contemplating it, and pondering over it! If only we knew the high status of those who become companions of the Quran, then surely we would attach ourselves to it and never detach ourselves from it. Our tongues would dry with constant recitation.

So the intention here is to remind ourselves by highlighting some of Ahadeeth that pertain to the Qur’an and the glad tidings they give to the People of the Qur’an, and to mention some statements of our Salaf, to incite ourselves to spend more time with it. For indeed Allaah has chosen this Ummah to receive the Qur’an, the one miracle that will remain until the Day of Judgment, The Book about which Allaah says: {Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah.} 59:21. This is the Ummah of the Qur’an, and we are of this Ummah, will we not then seize this? O Ummah of the Qur’an, Allaah asks you:

{Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe to be affected by Allah’s Reminder?…} 57:16
