– Alone –

It’s sometimes scary, when everyones’ turned their back. They’re not with me no more.. i wish we were together again. i wish things were back to normal.

Do you remember anyone close you’ve lost? Imagine that day again… how did it feel? If you’ve felt that pain in your throat, and your head hurt at that moment, then that person must have been really special to you.

People respond differently when they lose others. Some people try to move on and make new friends, others try to stay alone and reflect on what’s gone.

The ones that move on, they usually go through the reflection stage too.. they just might be a bit more used to it. While the one who remains in that state, they usually don’t want to move on. They want to stay comfortable, so they hold on to them memories, hoping that it just comes back.

If you’re this person – you probably find it hard to trust others, and don’t want to make new friends, because you might just lose them aswell. As time passes, this person might move forward; depending on if they have new things, new people to keep their mind occupied, and busy from the old memories.

We’re born in this world alone, we will die alone, and we will be raised back alone. Even the most dearest person isn’t with you in these moments which you need the most help in.

Allaah Almighty says about Prophet Yahya [John]:

So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! [Qur’an Maryam 19:15]

Let’s all strive to follow the ways of these pious Prophets of Allaah. Pray to experience the good that they do.

Imagine being born without anyone looking after you, and dying while everyone stares on – something you’ve never experienced before, and being raised infront of the Lord of the Worlds’ back to life again on the day when there will be no trading or bargaining, and you will be judged on every single action that you did in this world?

A famous scholar Sufyan bin `Uyaynah said;

“The loneliest that a man will ever feel is in three situations. The first situation is on the day that he is born, when he sees himself coming out of what he was in. The second situation is on the day that he dies, when he sees people that he will not see anymore. The third situation is on the day when he is resurrected, when he sees himself in the great gathering.

Each time you’re going from a smaller place into a greater place; from a womb where you felt comfortable for maybe 9months max, to a world where you may live for around 80years (and that isn’t even guaranteed.) To a grave where you lie, lasting for some centuries or milleniums, to the vastness of the hereafter which is for eternity…

Loneliness can be overcome if you turn to Allaah in sincere devotion. People who havn’t submitted to Allaah usually feel arrogant when His name is mentioned. Maybe because they feel they have limits, for instance someone says “Allaah has prohibited so and so” – the person may walk off in anger pretending that he/she never heard what was said. Or sometimes go to the extreme of saying that they don’t care.

I’ve noticed that people usually turn to Allaah when they’re in a state of despair. Everyone has pushed you aside, you don’t trust no-one, and because of this, you need someone to follow.. the people who reflect on their life usually realise that they havn’t really accomplished much and they have a higher purpose. It’s not just to get recognised, because simply wanting to get recognised becomes tiring.

Imagine them billionaires who might give a few thousands to the poor, and try to stick the cheque infront of the camera to show their ‘generosity.’ Yet when that’s done, all it leads to is either arrogance, or wanting more attention. Till death overcomes the person and all that they strived for, it just simply ended, someone else kept their remaining cash, and someone else married their beautiful husband or wife.

In islaam, we strive with our lives and wealth to please our Creator, Allaah Almighty. We submit to Him and He is pleased with that, pleased with our gratefulness. There are many verses from Qur’an and Authentic sayings of the Messenger of Allaah which encourage this. So the person works hard to please their Creator, while doing this – they hope to please Him out of love for Him and to get closer to Him.

Allaah Almighty says:

O ye who believe! Shall I lead you to a bargain that will save you from a grievous Penalty?-

That ye believe in Allah and His Messenger, and that ye strive (your utmost) in the Cause of Allah, with your property and your persons: That will be best for you, if ye but knew!

He will forgive you your sins, and admit you to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, and to beautiful mansions in Gardens of Eternity: that is indeed the Supreme Achievement.

And another (favour will He bestow,) which ye do love,- help from Allah and a speedy victory. So give the Glad Tidings to the Believers.

[Qur’an Al-Saff 61: 10-13]

And He, the Almighty said:

You shall not attain righteousness until you spend out of what you love (in the way of Allah). Allah knows whatever you spend. (3:92)

Safwan ibn Salim related that the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi waSalam) said: Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah’s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night. (Bukhari)

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (Peace be upon him), who said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

Spend (on charity), O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim).

Next time, if you see someone who’s in love with another. Try looking at their face, you’ll see that even if their lover’s not there – they got a funny face, and they’re grinning a lot.. lol smiling at themselves? The problem is that if this couple doesn’t see each other for a while, they become sad and lonely.

Now try looking at someone who loves Allaah, their own Creator. You’ll probably see a similar face, they feel tranquil, and even if some trouble hits them – they’ll probably still be smiling, because they know that all good and bad is from Allaah, as a trial for us. This world is only temporary, and the hereafter is the real home.

The person doesn’t feel lonely because even if Allaah isn’t there physically with them, they know that Allaah is remembering them:

So remember Me; I will remember you… (Qur’an Al-Baqarah 2:152)Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest. (Ar-Ra’ad 13: 28)

It reminds me of the hadith qudsi:

Allah the Exalted said, `O son of Adam! If you mention Me to yourself, I will mention you to Myself. If you mention Me in a gathering, I will mention you in a gathering of the angels (or said in a better gathering). If you draw closer to Me by a hand span, I will draw closer to you by forearm’s length. If you draw closer to Me by a forearm’s length, I will draw closer to you by an arm’s length. And if you come to Me walking, I will come to you running.[Sahih Al Bukhari]

(And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: “If you give thanks (by accepting faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My blessings); but if you are thankless (i.e., disbelievers), verily, My punishment is indeed severe.) [Qur’an Ibrahim 14:7]

Think about it, if we get that sense of calmness and tranquility by remembering Allaah in this world, then imagine how you would feel if you were in the presence of your Lord in Paradise?

One of the punishments of the people of the hellfire will be that they will be rejected, and everyone surrounding them will be their enemy.

Infact, they’ll regret disobeying the Messenger so much that the one they obeyed in this life will be their worst enemy – they’ll curse them and pray to Allaah that they get double the punishment:

The Day that their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire, they will say: “Woe to us! Would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!”And they would say: “Our Lord! We obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us as to the (right) Path.

“Our Lord! Give them double Penalty and curse them with a very great Curse!”

[Qur’an Al Ahzaab 33: 66-68]

Therein will they cry aloud (for assistance): “Our Lord! Bring us out: we shall work righteousness, not the (deeds) we used to do!” – “Did We not give you long enough life so that he that would should receive admonition? And (moreover) the warner came to you. So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds): for the wrong-doers there is no helper.” [Qur’an Al Faatir 35:37]

Think about it, that’s one of the worst situations you can be in. A place where you’re being punished, and no-one’s there to help you. You can’t share your pain, since no-one wants to know. Either because they have their ownselves to worry about, or because they’re too busy in their own pleasures.

Many times when Allaah talks to us in the Qur’an – He talks to us in groups since He knows that we are sociable creatures.

How much times have you read in the Qur’an:

“Oh ye who believe…” (Yaa ayuhala zeena aamanu..)

“Oh Mankind…” (yaa ayuhal naas..)

Similarly, when Allaah discusses the people of Jannah (Paradise) – He mentions the people being in groups.

And those who feared their Lord will be led to the Garden in crowds: until behold, they arrive there; its gates will be opened; and its keepers will say: “Peace be upon you! well have ye done! enter ye here, to dwell therein.”

(Qur’an Al Zumar 39:73)

Hadith – Sahih Bukhari 4:468, Narrated Abu Huraira

Allah’s Apostle said, “The first group (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like the moon when it is full. They will not spit or blow their noses or relieve nature. Their utensils will be of gold and their combs of gold and silver; in their centers the aloe wood will be used, and their sweat will smell like musk. Everyone of them will have two wives; the marrow of the bones of the wives’ legs will be seen through the flesh out of excessive beauty. They (i.e. the people of Paradise) will neither have differences nor hatred amongst themselves; their hearts will be as if one heart and they will be glorifying Allah in the morning and in the evening.”

Hadith – Sahih Bukhari 4:464, Narrated ‘Imran bin Husain

The Prophet said, “Verily! 70,000 or 700,000 of my followers will enter Paradise altogether; so that the first and the last amongst them will enter at the same time, and their faces will be glittering like the bright full moon.”

When Allaah describes the people in paradise, He mentions them greeting each other with Salaam (Peace.) He mentions them sitting together:

In the Gardens of delight,On thrones, facing each other.

[Qur’an Saaffaat 37: 43-4]

No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.).

But only the saying of: Salâm!, Salâm! (greetings with peace)!

[Al Waaqi’a 56: 25-6]

You may feel alone in this world, especially if you stick to the Sunnah (Prophetic way.) But know that this life is only short, and the hereafter is the real life. The sacrifice is worth it; know that hellfire is surrounded by lusts and desires. And Paradise is surrounded by hardships, trials and disliked things.

If you are sincere to get to Paradise, Allaah will make the path easy for you.

And if you are sincere in the path to disbelief, Allaah will make the path easy for you.

And those who believe and work righteous deeds,- them shall We admit to the company of the Righteous. [Qur’an Al Ankaboot 29:9]

And whoso obeys Allâh and the Messenger (Muhammad Sal Allaahu alayhi waSalam), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allâh has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqûn (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr AsSiddiq), the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!

(Qur’an Al Nisa 4: 69)
